Many moons ago I wrote a snippet based on a writing prompt exploring what a person might do if a vampire bit them. I’d like to build on those 200 or so words as an exercise in telling a story without an outline. This Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy tale will be written in short sections, and entirely during my commute to and from work. I’m excited to see where the story goes! Hope you enjoy.
When in Rome (Post #1)
The walk back to her hotel from the Teatro Argentina Opera House in Rome should have been a short one. Scolding herself for not bringing an extra pair of shoes, she stumbled in her stilettos over the narrow cobblestone streets of the ancient city. After nearly spraining her ankle for the umpteenth time she reached down with a huff and unfastened the strappy heels.
As she stood back up, the thought struck that she was no longer alone in the quiet alleyway.
“Who’s there?” she called out and looked around.
Only silence answered her.
An icy hand gripped her wrist and held her in place before she could make a run for it. She opened her mouth to scream but in an instant her fear was replaced by the strangest calm she had ever felt. Vaguely aware that the man who had restrained her had walked around to face her, she tilted her head to the side.
He pulled her close and buried his head in the crook of her neck.
His fangs pierced her skin, but instead of pain she felt a curious pleasant sensation as he drew the blood from her jugular. Warmth spread over her entire body and she held tightly to his arms.
As quickly as he came upon her, he was gone.
The calm she felt a moment ago began to dissipate, and she looked around nervously.
Bringing her hand to her neck she stood alone in the night, oddly wishing the dark stranger would return.
